MANILA, Philippines — The San Juan Predators, first runner-up of the recently concluded Wesley So Cup and one of the teams in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines, in coordination with the HubStar Chess School, is conducting a series of chess workshops for the Gawad Kalinga Quezon City chapter this Thursday, August 19.
“This is the start of a long-term program to introduce chess to our youth, especially those from other sectors,” said San Juan team owner Michael Angelo Chua. “We believe that chess will not only enhance the personal development and deductive skills of the youth, but it will also give them chances to get an athletic scholarship for high schools and colleges.”
The Online Chess Workshop and Tournament is the start of a grassroots chess program by both the Predators and HubStar Chess School which is also run by San Juan’s coach, Hubert Estrella. ADVERTISING
“This is just the first of many workshops in the grassroots program for chess that we in San Juan envision,” added Chua.
The planned workshop also hopes to identify young talent who can be the recipient of proper training. https://a9732232af585e7fd6d1b5c86f7ea68e.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html
